There are 2 parts to every Energy Evaluation Process.
First:
Have your Pre-Renovation Evaluation done by a certified Energy Advisor.
Upon arrival, the advisor will meet with you to discuss your plans and goals for your home. The Advisor will document your house prior to performing any renovations, retrofits, or upgrades, by calculating your existing insulation, finding window and door types and sizes, heating and ventilation equipment, and interior and exterior finishes. Further, a blower door test will be performed. This test will trigger and find any air leakage areas that may be present in your home. You and the advisor can survey every window, door or opening in your home to find exact areas that leak rather than simply guessing at likely areas. This is not only suggested practice, but highly recommended. Air leaks cost money and can often be fixed with minimal cost and effort. A report will be issued describing your house, from an energy perspective, and a Energy Guide Rating will be established. You are now free to start renovating your home.
Second:
Have your Post-Renovation Evaluation done after any and all renovations, upgrades and retrofits have been finished. When you meet, inform the advisor of all renovations that have been performed. The advisor will then provide the appropriate grant application, and will sit with you to fill in the right information. The advisor will then submit the application to Natural Resources Canada, (and the Provincial Government, if applicable) for payment.
Chapin advisors take care of all the paperwork.
There is no fighting tooth and nail to get your grants.
Simply sign your name and that's it!
